If you have not yet scheduled an appointment for Monday's NeuterPAlooza event and still want a FREE male cat neuter surgery with free rabies shot for unvaccinated cats, some surgery spots remain open IF you can bring your cat to the Pets Alive clinic between 10:30 and 11:30 am Monday (February 22.) Only those male cats without appointments brought to the clinic during this hour can be accepted for the free surgery. The cats will be kept at the clinic overnight for recovery and released the next morning. Clients that already have appointments scheduled must keep the appointments at their scheduled time to receive the surgery free.
IT IS CRITICALLY IMPORTANT THAT THE CATS NOT HAVE ANY FOOD AFTER MIDNIGHT THE NIGHT BEFORE TO BE ELIGIBLE FOR THE MONDAY SURGERY. Water is okay. Cats must also be brought in individual cat/pet carriers. If you do not have such a carrier, cardboard versions are on sale at Pets Alive for $5. Leave your cat in your vehicle while you come into clinic office to register between 10:30 and 11:30 am Monday. You will then be directed on how to take your cat to the surgery clinic entrance.

Bloomington, IN — The Pets Alive Nonprofit Spay/Neuter Clinic will host a “NeuterPAlooza” on February 22, charging no surgery fee for the first 100 clients to make appointments to fix their male cats on that day. The Neuterpalooza cats will also receive a free rabies shot if the pet owner is unable to document a current rabies vaccination.
The nonprofit spay/neuter clinic will also discount its fees for female cat/dog spays and male dog neuter surgeries by $10 throughout the month.
Appointments are required for all surgeries. On the day of surgery guardians will need to bring cats to the clinic in individual pet carriers.
The event and discounts are part of Pets Alive’s commemoration of February as Spay/Neuter Bloomington Month. Bloomington Mayor Mark Kruzan issued a proclamation for the month and the US Humane Society celebrates Spay Day USA in February.
Pets Alive’s regular surgery fees are already subsidized by donor contributions. The Spay/Neuter Month discounts represent an additional fee reduction below everyday subsidized prices.
Pets Alive Executive Director James McNamara said the clinic deliberately chose to focus on male cats for the free surgery event given the time of year. “Spring is a particularly tragic season in animal welfare because there’s a spike in the number of the unwanted kittens that are born and come into shelters then” McNamara said. “Perhaps no animal worsens the existing pet overpopulation crisis even more than the unfixed male cat wandering outdoors.”
Pet guardians may make appointments for either NeuterPAlooza or for other Spay/Neuter Month discounts by calling (812) 824-1FIX (1349).
