- In general, local veterinarians have been very supportive of the work of Pets ALIVE. It is common knowledge that pet overpopulation is a serious problem in south-central Indiana , and everyone who cares about animals is in favor of efforts to decrease the euthanasia rate.
- Informed veterinarians know that almost 90% of the animals treated at low-cost spay/neuter clinics have never been seen by a veterinarian. Statistics show that the vast majority of these pets have not even been vaccinated against rabies, which is required by state law, let alone other standard immunizations.
- Consequently, veterinarians are aware that we will be targeting a population of pets and pet owners who are rarely seen in a vet practice, and who contribute significantly to the homeless pet crisis.
- Those receiving services at the Pets ALIVE Spay/Neuter Clinic who do not list a regular vet upon intake will be provided with referrals to local veterinarians, thereby increasing the clientele base for veterinary practices.
* Proof of rabies vaccination is required for treatment at the Clinic, or a mandatory rabies vaccine will be administered at the time of surgery.
