Meet the Pets ALIVE Board

Karla Kamstra, President, has been devoted to the plight of homeless animals for a number of years. She and the other co-founders of Pets ALIVE spent a year researching all aspects of pet homelessness before launching Pets ALIVE. Karla has visited animal shelters, spay/neuter clinics and rescue organizations across the nation. She has attended and presented at workshops for organizations who start spay/neuter clinics, and is on the advisory board of the Animal Welfare Alliance of Indiana. Karla and her husband John have fostered almost 100 dogs in their home. |

Mary Ann Gingles, Vice President, has been involved with Pets Alive since its beginning. She and her husband, Bruce, have been long-time supporters of various animal rights and welfare organizations and got involved with Pets Alive for its potential to someday eradicate pet overpopulation and end unnecessary euthanasia of thousands of pets. Mary Ann’s past work experience focused on human resources management in entertainment, high tech and manufacturing industries. Having moved from Los Angeles, California, she now considers Bloomington her home, and feels that it’s an ideal town for those who want to get involved in the community and make a difference. |

Martha Blood, Treasurer, has helped to connect over 100 foster felines with their forever homes through her volunteer work with Pets ALIVE Adopt-A-Pets events, Petfinder.com, the animal shelter, and multiple friends. Martha moved to Bloomington in 1999 to start a new business enterprise for the Association of College Unions International (ACUI), a professional higher education association headquartered in downtown Bloomington. She serves as the Director of Corporate Partnerships and Chief Operating Officer of ACUI Procure. Martha shares her home with six permanent feline residents, a longhair Chihuahua-Papillion mix, and a varying number of foster cats and kittens. |

Carol Rhodes has volunteered her services for Pets ALIVE since spring of 2005, helping with feral cat transportation, newsletter creation, and Web development. She is a longtime supporter of animal welfare groups, environmental groups, as well as local and regional arts. She serves as officer of the Bloomington Watercolor Society, and enjoys painting when she is not working as a computing education and training specialist for Indiana University. Her core family includes husband Roger, two young adult daughters, a Pembroke Welsh Corgi, and four cats. |

Ken Hays has been an Investment Consultant for over 12 years. He is currently Vice President of Hurlow Wealth Management Group of Wachovia Securities. He is very active throughout the community as a board member of Eastside Bloomington, Inc., serves in multiple committees for the local Chamber of Commerce, and has helped raise funds for numerous other local non-profit organizations. Ken along with his daughter, Erin, have a great passion for animals and have fostered numerous dogs during the last several years. |

Aaron Stolberg is president/owner of WS Homes, Inc, and a partner at WS Property Group, Inc. Aaron is also Vice President of the Monroe County Builders Association board of directors, Vice President of the Monroe County Habitat for Humanity board of directors, and a member of the Bloomington Parks Foundation board of directors. Aaron and Amy have 3 cats, Gypsy and her offspring, Miles and Cinco, which they adopted when they lived in Austin. He and Amy also live with their bulldog, Boss Hog, and their two red-footed tortoises, Rocco and Valentino. |

Danielle DeSawal received her Ph.D. from Indiana University in Higher Education and Student Affairs, with a minor in Philanthropic Studies. She serves on the School of Education Faculty and coordinates the nationally ranked master’s program in Higher Education and Student Affairs. Danielle has also served as a research assistant for a national grant looking at Latino college students, and has worked as Educational Program Coordinator for the Association of College Unions International. With ACUI, she coordinated volunteers, designed educational content and managed conference programs. Danielle has been actively involved with the foster program at the Bloomington Animal Shelter for the past three years. |
